Medical Lab Assistant/Phlebotomy Positions

Specimen Collection Specialist (Program Assistant II) BA/BS preferred. Some scientific background desired. Experience in laboratory and/or clinical environments a plus. Phlebotomy experience or willingness to take a phlebotomy training class is required. Research study recruitment and enrollment experience is preferred. The ability to develop a rapport with people who are in stressful circumstances is essential. The individual in this position must have a high level of comfort with attending surgeries in the OR and with dissecting tissue samples for cryopreservation. A large percentage of time is spent standing and walking (five to six miles a day). A great deal of Independence, initiative, a commitment to high quality work, attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work in a dynamic environment required. Must have: excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task; familiarity with medical terminology; ability to problem solve, troubleshoot and work with all levels of an organization; proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word), working with documents and spreadsheets. Specimen processing and culture inoculation, supply maintenance, antibiotic susceptibility setup, urinalysis, macroscopic/ microscopic testing/reporting and clerical functions are primary responsibilities. This also includes interaction with other assistant, medical technologists, supervisors and personnel from other departments. Employee is expected to perform in a professional manner as expected of all healthcare employees. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Perform all functions of microbiology specimen processing: Interpret orders, assure identification of specimens, computer log- in, culture inoculation. Perform all functions in Urinalysis testing: Computer log –in, macroscopic dipstick tests, microscopic analysis of urine and other fluids, result entry of data. Perform setup of Susceptibility tests: Inoculation of broth and setup of disk diffusion tests and MIC sensitivity studies, QC and function verification associated with MIC automation. Perform Medial and Supply Maintenance: Inventory and ordering supplies, media, stains, etc… for entire department. Perform Cleaning Tasks: Cleaning incubators, refrigerators, freezers, and special component parts. QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma. Bachelor of Science preferred. Laboratory experience desired, preferably clinical. Medical terminology and/or interest in the field is of value. NECESSARY SKILLS OR DEMANDS: Organizational and clerical skills required. Ability to effectively communicate with other healthcare personnel.
