They will collect and prepare laboratory specimens or perform basic laboratory tests on the premises, dispose of contaminated supplies and sterilize medical instruments. They may also perform inhalation treatments, catheterization, phlebotomy, assisting with lacerations, circumcisions and cast applications. They can administer medications, perform wound debridement, change dressing and remove sutures or casts as directed by the Physician or RN. Duties that the MA may be responsible for are: Immunization tracking, supply inventory, quality assurance implementation, allergy injections, organization of sample closet, and disposal of outdated drugs.
