Billing Specialist
• Prepare UB-92's billing via paper or electronic means according to payor specific rules. • Prepare input documents to transfer charges, post payments and prepare allowances to patient accounts. • Access computer databases to obtain eligibility information. • Update patient demographic and financial information in the REG systems. • Communicate with patients and registration staff as required to obtain or verify billing information. • Ability to understand and meet performance standards. • Work directly with case rate coordinators to assure bills submitted for bundling. • Identify and make recommendations regarding systems issues. • Analyze credit balance account to determine correct action. • Maintain spreadsheets and write original correspondence using Microsoft Excel and Word software. • Able to interpret and implement Medicare guidelines. • Reviews Program Memorandums as needed to assure compliant billing practices. • Excellent understanding of Billing Compliance issues. • Understands billing edits and able to resolve and/or make recommendations. • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school graduation or equivalent, and one-year experience in an appropriately related patient accounting function or equivalent education/experience. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and public. Knowledge of PFS on-line system, internal filing systems and SCCA's Registration system. Able to retrieve active and purged data, remittance advises and other PFS in-put. Able to update PFS and Registration systems. Knowledge of PFS Accounts Receivable Transaction and Sponsor Codes. Able to accurately prepare A/R cash, adjustments and allowances. Knowledge of UB-92 Data Elements and payor requirements. Ability to use 10-key adding machine by touch. Able to accurately report payments to accounts from outside collection agency. Provide excellent customer service. Able to maintain effective interpersonal relationships with co-workers and SCCA's customers. Ability to learn internal PFS policies and procedures. Able to evaluate patient accounts for accurate reimbursement, refund, charity allowance or acceptable payment arrangements.

Responsibilities: Responsible for generating daily billings, verifying UB-92 and HCFA-1500 forms, producing Medicare, Medicaid, and Insurance billings on request, verifying patient charts for visits, copying documents to accompany patient billing forms, reconciliation of billing statements and remittance advice, and data entry of charge records and cash receipts.
Minimum qualifications: Working knowledge of medical billing procedures. Experience with medical terminology and insurance reimbursement requirements. Must be adept with basic mathematical analysis of charges, payments and adjustments. Must be competent with 10-key calculators. Experienced in computerized billing and accounts receivable applications. Some experience in spreadsheets and word-processing desirable. Ability to summarize complicated account transactions in clear, concise language. Pleasant phone manners with insurance company personnel, other office staff, and, occasionally, with patients. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. College degree a plus. Experience: 6 months or more experience in a medical billing office. Equipment/Skills: Ability to use 10 key by touch. Typing speed of 30 wpm or greater.
