A Medical Assistant under the supervision of the Physician and/or licensed Nursing Staff (RN, LPN) is responsible for basic patient care, obtaining data from the patient, identifying chief complaint, assisting in routine office procedures and tests and participating in basic patient/family education. The MA will display self-direction, accountability, and ability to function within the clinics philosophies, guidelines and policies and procedures. The MA will be responsible for maintaining an understanding of the OSHA/WISHA and CLIA guidelines by attending the mandatory training. Qualifications: Course certificate and curriculum of a medical assistant program. Must Obtain a State of Washington Health Care Assistant Certification with categories ACE within three months of hire into the clinic. Successfully complete a Basic Life Support (BLS) course for the Healthcare provider. Completed a Basic First Aid Course and has proof of course completion. MA Job Description
Medical Assistants (MA’s) will work with a physician, a nurse practitioner, and a licensed practical nurse to support care for a small panel of patients who pay a monthly fee for care.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Working as a member of an integrated healthcare team along with a physician, a nurse practitioner, and a licensed practical nurse to collaboratively manage patient care
• Receiving patients and checking them in for appointments
• Answering telephone calls to the practice
• Scheduling appointments
• Escorting patients to exam rooms, taking and recording vital signs, and recording chief complaints
• Entering data into the electronic medical record
• Obtaining and coordinating referral services
• Administering vaccines, injectable and oral medications, and respiratory treatments
• Assisting with in-office procedures
• Taking X-rays (training provided)
• Collecting blood, urine, and other samples and processing them for in-clinic or send-out testing
• Assisting with medication dispensing from in-clinic dispensary (training provided)
• Participating in clinic and organization-wide quality improvement activities.
• Working 3-4 extended (up to 12 hour) days per week, rotating weekend duties with other teams
Requirements include, but are not limited to:
• Current MA certification in Washington State
• Completion of all credentialing requirements (including but not limited to primary source verification, background check, reference check)
• Completion of all privileging requirements
• Maintenance of all CME requirements for maintenance of certification
• Ability to work with multiple software programs, including Word, Excel, email, electronic medical records and others (with specific training where applicable)
Additional desirable skills (not required):
• Fluency in an additional language, especially Spanish
• Advanced computer skills
