POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for back office functions including patient preparation, support of health care providers, laboratory procedures and clinic in a manner that promotes quality patient care. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Prepare exam rooms, laboratory area and lavatory with supplies before and the start and through the day. Prepare patients for exams including chief complaint and vital signs. Provide assistance with patient exams, minor surgeries and medical procedures. Perform laboratory procedures including, but not limited to, venipuncture, hematocrit, urine chemstrips, microscopic, wet mounts, blood glucose and pregnancy tests. Perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including, but not limited to, injections, vaccinations, EKGs, spirometry, audiometry and nebulizer treatments. Triage patients for appointments. Ensure lab specimens are properly labeled, recorded and sent to appropriate outside laboratory. Complete laboratory control sheets according to CHCKC procedures. Fill out lab, x-ray and referral forms according to CHCKC procedures. Provide instructions to patients on the use of medications as directed by the Provider. Assist in telephone refilling of medications. Record medication refills in patient charts. Schedule referral appointments. Provide instruction in home care and give general health information as directed by a provider. Maintain exam rooms and lab in sanitary and good order at all times. Sanitize used equipment with appropriate sterilizing techniques. Provide liaison between receptionists and providers ensuring timely and orderly patient flow throughout the clinic. Follow established procedures for opening and closing the clinic each day. Attend staff meeting and in-service meeting. Participate in agency committees and task force activities. Ability to obtain Washington State certification as a Health Care Assistant in categories A and E within six (6) months of hire, which requires: 1. One academic year of formal education at the post-secondary level at an accredited medical assisting school or the equivalent. Education shall include but not be limited to anatomy, physiology, pharmacological principles and medication administration, concepts of asepsis, and microbiology; 2. Adequate physical ability and sufficient manual dexterity to perform the requisite health care services. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants with previous experience as a medical assistant beyond externship are desired. Applicants bilingual in English and Spanish are desired.
